Creative Journeys

I am Keir Davis who serves as an artist and visual arts educator based in Webb Mississippi. I teach students from grade seven to twelve and have been teaching young artists to find their artistic voices since 2020. The small rural environment where I teach has shown me that creative potential emerges from students who ask questions and try new things and who are willing to learn at their own pace.

My career as a correctional sergeant spanned nearly a decade before I started teaching. The experience I gained as a correctional sergeant developed my ability to discipline myself and understand others, which I now apply to my teaching methods. My artistic journey began when I won art competitions during high school, and I returned to my creative work after completing my education at Delta State University and the University of Florida.

My artistic work draws inspiration from personal experiences and cultural heritage and the materials which surround me. I enjoy working with diverse materials which include paint and paper and fabric and found objects and beans and maps to create meaningful artistic expressions. Every artistic creation I make represents an authentic experience from my life which includes memories and obstacles and peaceful moments.

I spent more than 250 hours creating small collages for my project Responding to Creativity through Mixed Media: A Personal Exploration to rediscover my artistic approach. The artistic journey taught me about the necessity for artists and students to dedicate time to creative play and self-reflection and professional development.

Art exists as a balance between following rules and having complete freedom to create. The creative process involves trying new things while learning from errors which lead to unexpected results. The Easy Collage Art project aims to help people discover the value of handmade creation through slow and creative work that leads to meaningful artistic expression.
